According to media reports, we are talking about the ex-director of the Department of Public Procurement of the Ministry of Defense Bogdan Khmelnitsky.
The Security Service of Ukraine exposed the former director of the Department of Public Procurement and Supply of Material Resources of the Ministry of Defense for embezzlement of public funds in the amount of more than 100 million hryvnias. This was announced on February 1 by the press service of the department.
The investigation found that the ex-official bought almost three thousand low-quality body armor for more than 100 million hryvnias for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As examinations have shown, they do not meet the requirements of class IV and cannot be reliable protection for the military.
The former official was declared suspected under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- obstruction of the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations (part 1 of article 114-1);
- appropriation, embezzlement or possession of property by abuse of official position (part 5 of article 191);
- commission of a criminal offense by a group of persons (part 2 of article 28).
The sanction of the articles provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of five to eight years.
At the moment, the issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is being decided.
Low-quality body armor should be recalled to the warehouses of the Ministry of Defense.
The SBU emphasized that investigative actions are being carried out on other officials in the security and defense sector.
Earlier, the media reported that Bogdan Khmelnytsky, the ex-director of the State Procurement Department of the Ministry of Defense, was suspected of embezzling public funds.
