The prime minister noted that all seven points of the recommendations of the European Commission have either been implemented or have significant progress and approximate deadlines for implementation.
Today, February 2, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, at a press conference following a joint meeting of the government of Ukraine and the European Commission, said that by the end of 2023 Ukraine wants to be ready for negotiations on full membership in the EU, and by the end of 2024 – to membership in the EU, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
“Ukraine’s efforts were positively assessed by representatives of the European Commission. We expect that in the spring the European Commission will provide formalized conclusions on our progress, and at the end of 2023 it will make a recommendation to the European Council on the start of negotiations on joining the EU,” Shmyhal said.
The prime minister noted that all seven points of the recommendations of the European Commission have either been implemented or have significant progress and approximate deadlines for implementation.
“An oral assessment in the spring will give us an understanding of whether we have completed the implementation of these seven points, and whether we can already work on an analysis of 35 sections of future negotiations in the summer,” the prime minister said.
Shmygal noted his readiness for the issue of Ukraine’s accession to the EU to be a process of discussion and may take some time, but stressed that Ukraine’s task is to do everything so that there are no questions for it at the time of the discussion of accession to the EU.
“We want to be ready for negotiations by the end of the year, and we want to be ready for membership by the end of next year,” Shmygal stated.
The Prime Minister hopes that political approval will be received on February 3 of a priority action plan for enhanced implementation of a free trade area with the EU for 2023-2024, and believes that Ukraine can count on rapid progress in sectoral accession to the EU markets.
Earlier it was reported that Ukraine signed an agreement with the EU on the Single Market.
