The movements were received by diplomat Alejandro Paredes, in charge of political affairs / Disclosure
At the Peruvian Embassy in Brasilia, according to Soniamara Maranho, national leader of the Movement of People Affected by Dams (MAB), in the absence of the ambassador, the movements were received by the diplomat Alejandro Paredes, in charge of political affairs, who undertook to transmit the demand from the movements to the Brazilian embassy in Lima.
The action coincided precisely with the moment when the proposal for new elections is presented for consideration by the Peruvian congress. The left-wing forces in the country not only want the call for new elections for the end of 2023, as presented by Dina Boluarte, but the need for a Constituent Assembly that changes the country’s political system – legacy of the authoritarian and neoliberal government of Alberto Fujimori.

In this sense, on Wednesday (1), the Peruvian Congress rejected the project to bring forward the general elections in the country, with 45 votes in favor and 65 against. With that, the impasse continues between the proposal presented by the presidency and the demand from the streets and from the Peruvian left for elections, with the dissolution of the congress and the proposal of a Constituent Assembly.
Latin American Solidarity
In São Paulo, the organizations also obtained the protocol with the consul Jianpier Pletickosich López. In the other squares, it was not possible to schedule with the consulate, but the organizations maintained the symbolic actions in the places. The organization’s aim is to continue with the undersigned and with solidarity with the struggle of the Peruvian people.
“We continue to fight against fascism and the coup d’état in Latin America, we continue to fight. We managed to file and stamp the petition, showing our concern and having a very democratic debate about our perspective in Latin America”, says Kyo Kobayashi, from the national secretariat of the Popular Consultation.

In the opinion of Ana Júlia Guedes, from Alba Movimentos – Desafio Brasil, an international articulation that encompasses popular movements from several countries, it is important to oppose the media narrative that naturalizes the coup and, at this moment, covers up violence against popular organizations.
“All expressions of solidarity with the Peruvian people are important at this moment so that the international community does not consolidate the narrative that what is happening in Peru is an internal problem. January of that year, were fundamental for Bolsonarism to lose even more space. The Peruvian people are not alone! The freedom of Pedro Castillo, respect for the rights of demonstration and organization and the departure of Dina Boluarte and call for new elections in Peru are fundamental for the consolidation of an era of democracy and autonomy for Latin America!”, he says.
