Several German officials have discussed with the Qatari Foreign Ministry a possible purchase of 15 Gepard tanks for Ukraine.
The German authorities have approved the supply of Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine from industrial stocks and are negotiating the purchase of 15 Gepard tanks from Qatar for shipment to Kyiv. On Friday, February 3, reports Reuters with reference to the Sueddeutsche Zeitung.
It is noted that the delivery of Leopard tanks to Ukraine can occur at any time after their repair.
Rheinmetall and Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft (FFG) want to refurbish dozens of Leopard 1 tanks and could supply them to Ukraine if Kyiv agrees to buy them.
Several German officials have discussed with Qatar’s Foreign Ministry the possible purchase of 15 Gepard tanks that Doha has bought to secure World Cup stadiums, the paper said, adding that Berlin was trying to get more ammunition from Qatar.
“Gepard has proven itself very well in the war in Ukraine. If we could get more from partners here, it would definitely help the Ukrainians,” German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said.
