The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported on the suspicion of the founder of PMC “Wagner” Yevgeny Prigozhin of encroaching on the territorial integrity of the country and waging an aggressive war.
According to the investigation, he was empowered to recruit, train and manage his subordinates for their further use in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine. All this happened with the full support of the Russian authorities.
“The head of this PMC is directly responsible for thousands of war crimes. He openly admits his role in waging the war against Ukraine and, with the permission of the Kremlin, solves personnel issues by recruiting tens of thousands of prisoners,” the ministry said in a statement.
The prosecutor general’s office noted that ordinary “Wagnerites” would also be held accountable: “Even those who fled abroad.” Prosecutors have reportedly already interrogated two Wagner PMC fighters who are now in the EU.
The involvement in war crimes of another Wagner PMC fighter, who is in Norway, is being checked. The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine intends to send a request for investigative actions to their Norwegian colleagues.
