EU agrees to provide assessment to Ukraine, speeding up accession talks
Without an official document from the EU with an assessment of the implementation of tasks and a description of the problems, Ukraine cannot perform “correction work” on the implementation of the seven criteria.
Ukraine will soon receive from Brussels an interim assessment of the fulfillment of the seven criteria received with the status of a candidate. European Pravda writes about this on Friday, February 3, with reference to the final document of the Ukraine-EU summit.
It is known that the European Commission intended to provide an oral report in the spring, and prepare a written report only by the fall.
Meanwhile, without an official document from the EU with an assessment of the implementation and a description of the problems, Ukraine cannot do “work on the mistakes”, and therefore get closer to the goal of joining the EU. Meanwhile, 2024 is the year of a change in the composition of the European Commission.
As the EP notes, the EU agreed to put the oral report on paper and officially hand it over to Ukraine.
“We take into account the intention of the Commission to provide updated information in the spring of 2023, which will also be transmitted to Ukraine through the relevant channels,” the document says.
Recall, speaking about the process of Ukraine’s accession to the EU, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen noted that there is no clear time frame in this, but there are goals that need to be achieved.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv was preparing a greater integration of Ukraine into the EU internal market.
