
Earthquake destroys houses in nine provinces of Turkey
Rescuers search for survivors under the rubble of collapsed buildings in many cities in both countries.
A powerful earthquake in southeastern Turkey and Syria has killed at least 195 people in both countries and injured hundreds. This was reported on February 6 by the AR agency.
In Turkey, according to preliminary data from the Emergency Management Agency, at least 76 people have died in seven provinces. Another 440 people were injured. Houses were destroyed in nine provinces.
In Syria, a total of at least 119 people were killed and 334 injured. It is noted that the Ministry of Health of the country informed about 99 victims of the elements in the territories controlled by the government. Another 20 people died in the territories controlled by the rebels.
According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the first shock with a magnitude of 7.8 was located 33 kilometers from the city of Gaziantep and lay at a depth of 18 km. About ten minutes later, a strong aftershock of magnitude 6.7 occurred.
