The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation demanded that the Legion “Freedom of Russia” be recognized as a terrorist legion – a unit in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, consisting of Russian volunteers. This was reported in the telegram channel of the department.
The claim has been submitted to the Supreme Court. The Prosecutor General’s Office believes that “the legion was created in Ukraine with the aim of undermining the foundations of the constitutional order of the Russian Federation, overthrowing the government in the country, including by committing terrorist acts, which poses a threat to the security of society and the state.”
Representatives of the Legion “Freedom of Russia” consider their goal to be the liberation of the regions of Ukraine occupied by Russia, as well as the fight against President Vladimir Putin, who, as stated in the manifesto of the legion, “destroyed not only the Russian economy, but also the opportunity for Russians to develop and have the right to a happy future” .
In Russia itself, people who allegedly tried to leave to fight on the side of Ukraine are being prosecuted. So, Kirill Belousov, a 23-year-old resident of the Saratov region, received five years in a strict regime colony. According to investigators, Belousov, who worked as a salesman in the Magnit store, decided to go to Ukraine to take part in the hostilities against the Russian Armed Forces as part of the Freedom of Russia Legion.
On December 20, Putin called on security officials to “severely suppress” the actions of foreign intelligence services and “promptly identify traitors, spies and saboteurs.” He stated that in this direction “maximum composure, concentration of forces” is needed from counterintelligence agencies, including the military.
