The serious earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria in the early hours of last Monday (6) mobilizes the international community. The Brazilian government has informed that it will send humanitarian aid to the affected countries.
In a note published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the country undertook to work with the coordination of the affected countries to define what type of aid will be sent. The work will be coordinated by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency, linked to the Ministry.

Hours after the earthquake, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) expressed Brazil’s solidarity with the peoples of both countries on a social network.
We look with concern at the news coming from Turkey and Syria, after the earthquake of great magnitude. Brazil expresses its solidarity with the people of both countries, with the families of the victims and all those who lost their homes in this tragedy.

In the same note in which it confirmed the sending of humanitarian aid, the MRE said that there was no information on Brazilian victims among the dead and wounded in Turkey and Syria.
The Brazilian embassies in Ankara and Damascus, capitals of both countries, and also the Brazilian consulate in the Turkish city of Istanbul, are working on an on-call basis.
