Powerful earthquake hits Turkey
On the night of February 6, one of the most powerful earthquakes in the last 80 years occurred in southeastern Turkey, as well as in Syria and Lebanon. Its magnitude approached 8 points. Later, 78 aftershocks were recorded in the country. Also in the afternoon in the central part of Turkey there was another strong earthquake of magnitude 7.5. More than 6,000 buildings were destroyed in ten provinces of Turkey. In the evening, the death toll in Turkey reached 2379 people. Another 1,293 casualties were reported in Syria. The European Union announced the mobilization of emergency assistance to Turkey after the devastating earthquake. Earthquakes also occurred in neighboring countries. Thus, an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 was recorded in Kazakhstan. It was also reported that earthquakes of magnitude 4.6 were recorded in Romania and Moldova. However, experts say that there is no connection between the two surface seismic zones in Romania and Turkey. Later it became known that the strongest earthquake in the region in the last 40 years occurred in the US state of New York. However, its magnitude is not too high – 3.8 points. In addition, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake was reported in Taiwan.
Reznikov remains in Defense Ministry – Arakhamia
There will be no rotations in the defense sector this week. This was announced by the head of the Servant of the People faction David Arakhamia. He made such a statement after Alexei Reznikov said in an interview that he would refuse to head another department where they planned to appoint him.
Rada recognized PMC Wagner as a criminal organization
The Verkhovna Rada has recognized the Russian private military company Wagner as an international criminal organization. This was announced by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak. In the document, the Verkhovna Rada called on the governments and parliaments of the countries of the world to take similar actions, given the nature of the activities of the “Wagnerites” in Ukraine, the Central African Republic, Mali, Libya and Syria.
The Russian Federation has three directions of possible offensives – GUR
The Russian occupying army can launch an offensive from three possible directions. This was reported in the material of the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. “We have determined that the offensive of the Russian troops may be in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, and also, possibly, in Zaporozhye. At the same time, Russian troops will conduct defense in the Kherson region and Crimea,” the message says. In addition, the GUR noted that Russia plans to mobilize another 300,000 to 500,000 people into the army to ensure offensive operations in eastern and southern Ukraine in the spring and summer of 2023. This is in addition to the previously 300,000 mobilized last fall.
Russia lost $8 billion from oil ceiling – IEA
As a result of the introduction of a price ceiling for Russian oil, Russia’s oil and gas revenues fell by a third in January. This was stated by the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Fatih Birol. According to him, last month Russia earned $8 billion less from the sale of oil and gas than in the same period last year. The drop in income was 30%. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation reported that in January the country’s oil and gas revenues amounted to 426 billion rubles and decreased by 46% by January 2022. They attributed the fall to a decrease in Urals oil prices and a decrease in natural gas exports.
The Rada submitted a proposal on the appointment of a new head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal submitted a proposal to the Verkhovna Rada on the appointment of the head of the National Police, Igor Klymenko, as the Minister of Internal Affairs. After the helicopter crash in Brovary, which killed the previous leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Klymenko was appointed acting head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
