The Security Service of Ukraine detained two inspectors and one former employee of the State Transport Security Service while receiving a bribe from the carrier. This was reported by the SBU department in the Volyn region.
A group of officials set up a criminal mechanism to receive money from trucking companies. The perpetrators offered their assistance in allowing vehicles out of turn to pass through the Yagodin international checkpoint. Officials estimated their “services” at $100 per car.
Employees of the SBU documented several similar facts of receiving illegal funds. It was also established that the attackers demanded bribes from volunteer organizations and charitable foundations.
The SBU detained three people while receiving another batch of bribes.
As part of the criminal proceedings initiated under Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (acceptance of an offer, promise or unlawful benefit by an official), three persons involved were reported on suspicion. Currently, the issue of a measure of restraint in the form of detention is being resolved.
Officials face a sentence of up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
An investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In the Chernivtsi region, on the border with Romania, minibuses with potential border violators were stopped. 13 passengers aged 22 to 52 planned to cross the border on foot in one of the mountainous sections of the Carpathians.
