A fire broke out at the Edge Autonomy drone factory in the Latvian city of Marupe, injuring three people. Delfi writes about it.
The initial fire was in the production area, where the explosion most likely occurred. There were large and small explosions that interfered with the work of firefighters, so the fire spread quickly, Ainars Yusts, the duty officer of the Riga regional department of the State Fire and Rescue Service, told the Panorama TV channel. According to him, the flames quickly spread to the administrative part, but the office premises were saved from the fire.
The police launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
The deputy director of Edge Autonomy, Janis Vilmanis, said the fire caused extensive damage, but its exact extent is still unknown.
“Our priority is the company’s employees and their health. As a result of the fire, three of our employees were injured, two of them were hospitalized. We trust the operational services that work on the spot, and we will find out the causes of the incident. In order not to interfere with the investigation, we will refrain from guessing about the causes ( fire),” said company representative Dzintars Neimanis.
The fire area, according to preliminary data, amounted to 600 square meters in a two-story production building, and the plant’s products burned on an area of 20 square meters. Due to heavy smoke, residents were previously asked to close the windows of their houses and turn off the ventilation.
Edge Autonomy was founded in 2009. The owner of the enterprise is an American company. At the plant in Latvia, in addition to drones, video cameras for military and civilian purposes are produced. The company’s products are purchased by more than 70 countries around the world.
