The Military Police of Rio de Janeiro expelled from the corporation Ronnie Lessa, accused of killing councilor Marielle Franco (Psol) and driver Anderson Gomes in March 2018, in the center of the capital of Rio de Janeiro. The decision was published last Wednesday (8). In the internal letter, the PM justifies the expulsion for Lessa’s conduct classified as “execrable”.

Marielle’s friendly parliamentarians stated that the PM’s decision is late and that there is no reason to celebrate, since the corporation took four years to take action in relation to the then retired sergeant and now a former police officer. On social media, federal deputy Talíria Petrone (Psol) commented on the decision.
“Only now has the PMERJ expelled Ronnie Lessa, convicted of the murder of Marielle Franco and Anderson Gomes. Almost five years after the crime, we still want to know who ordered it. We demand a forceful answer!”, he said.
“Just now? Finally, the PMERJ expelled the hired killer Ronnie Lessa, Marielle and Anderson’s killer. He was from the reserve until today, 5 years after the cowardly execution of our companion. If Lessa killed, who paid? Who ordered Marielle killed ?”, said councilwoman Mônica Cunha (Psol).

Lessa and former military police officer Élcio Queiroz have been in prison since March 12, 2019. The two are responsible for triple-qualified double homicide (awkward motive, ambush and resource that made it difficult for the victim to defend themselves) and for the attempted murder of one of Marielle’s advisors , who survived.
In addition to the homicide case, Lessa has already had preventive detention ordered for money laundering and was convicted in cases of international arms trafficking and concealment of the weapons used in the murder of Marielle and Anderson.
