The Latvian National Council for Electronic Media (NEPLP) has temporarily restricted access to a number of sites associated with Russian propaganda media in connection with EU sanctions, writes Latvijas Vestnesis.
The decision to block, as the newspaper notes, was made in accordance with the EU Council Regulation on restrictive measures in connection with the actions of Russia that destabilize the situation in Ukraine.
The sites linked to such propaganda media as Russia Today English, Russia Today UK, Russia Today Germany, Russia Today France, Russia Today Spanish and Sputnik were blocked.
Thus, access to sites such as deutsch.rt.com, fr.rt.com, rtde.xyz, rtde.site, rtde.live, rtde.team, rtde.website, sputniknews.gr, sputniknews.cn, sputniknews.kz, lt.sputniknews.ru, oz.sputniknews-uz.com, baltnews.ru, sputnik.az, sputnik.kg, sputnik-abkhazia.info, sputnik-georgia.com, sputnik-ossetia.com, sputnik- tj.com.
Access is also limited to duplicated mirrors of the specified sites.
In December last year, NEPLP canceled the license of the Dozhd TV channel. This decision was made “in connection with the threat to national security and public order.” In addition, in the territory of Latvia, access to the TV company’s programs on YouTube was closed. The reason for depriving Dozhd of its broadcasting license, Ivars Abolins, chairman of NEPLP, was that the channel had not fulfilled its obligation to translate its programs into Latvian in accordance with Latvian law.
