Putin’s friend Umar Kremlev (right) continues to ruin world boxing
The United States team expressed its protest in connection with the state of affairs in world boxing.
Scandals related to the International Federation for this sport and its leader, Russian Umar Kremlev, continue in world boxing.
This time, the US team expressed its protest. The Americans released a statement saying that the men’s and women’s teams will not compete at the World Championships in 2023.
The reason is the bad reputation of the International Boxing Association and its leader, as well as many unresolved problems in the organization and non-observance of the policy of neutrality towards Russians and Belarusians.
“The move is the latest response to the growing controversy surrounding the International Boxing Association, which has been stripped of control of Olympic boxing twice by the International Olympic Committee amid multiple scandals and leadership issues.
The IOC has repeatedly criticized IBA President Umar Kremlev for questionable elections, failure to resolve refereeing issues and financial irregularities, and for the Kremlin’s apparent attempts to move away from Olympic boxing in the hope of gaining control of many of the world’s professional boxing organizations.
It should be noted that the IBA Women’s World Championship may be held in March in New Delhi, and the men’s championship is scheduled for May in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
At the same time, the refusal to participate in the world championship will not affect the qualification of the United States for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The IOC will hold its own selection of boxers in Paris.
Recall that earlier the IBA removed the disqualification from Russian boxers and imposed restrictions on Ukrainians.
