A support material for the Financial Education subject included in the curriculum of the Paraná state school network circulated on social networks and provoked negative reactions from teachers, parents and students. The slide aimed at students in the sixth year of public schools in the state makes a comparison between “rich mentality X poor mentality”. Among the comparisons, phrases attributed to the poor mentality such as: “blame others and the government”, “only dream”, “focus on adversities”, “work for money”.
For APP-Sindicato, the material encourages the stigmatization of poverty and ignorance about the reality of public school students. In addition, it addresses self-help ideology replacing scientific knowledge, social sciences and the real debate about the roots of poverty.

Walkiria Olegário Mazetto, president of the APP-Union, classified the material as violent and discriminatory. “That material can be considered violence because it discriminates against and holds the poor responsible for their poverty. This is exposed to children and adolescents without counterpoint conditions. That, yes, we can call it indoctrination ”, she says.
The mother of a student who has just entered public school says she is very concerned about the direction of education in the state. “Teachers are lacking in several disciplines. Other than that there is no training for these new disciplines. For example, I was informed that the media classes will be taught by English and Arts teachers. Another problem I’ve seen is that Philosophy now has another name ‘Ethics and Leadership’, will they discuss ethics or the motivational context?” asks the mother, who preferred not to be identified.
Questioned by the APP-Sindicato, the Secretary of State for Education (Seed) informed that the material will be withdrawn and that it does not reflect the vision of the secretary on financial education.
