
USS George W. Bush heading for Turkey
The Nimitz-class supercarrier has begun cruising to Turkey to help with massive recovery efforts if needed.
The US is moving the USS George W. Bush, stationed in the Mediterranean Sea, closer to Turkey to help deal with the aftermath of a devastating earthquake. This was stated by Pentagon Speaker Patrick Ryder.
The Nimitz-class supercarrier has begun cruising to Turkey to help with massive recovery efforts if Turkish officials request more help.
Ryder noted that the United States had previously sent search and rescue teams, cargo planes and helicopters to Turkey.
“We are trying to do our best to respond to their requests and help them,” he said.
More US disaster relief teams will arrive in Turkey next week.
Recall that on the night of February 6, several powerful earthquakes occurred in Turkey, with a magnitude above 7. According to the latest data, more than 20 thousand people died in Turkey, more than 80 thousand were injured. In neighboring Syria, the death toll is approaching 3,500.
