While he is the target of pressure for the US government to reject his request to stay in the country – due to suspicions of involvement in the recent attempted coup d’état -, former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said he may return to Brazil voluntarily “in the coming weeks”. The statements were made during an event at a church in Florida, in the United States, where he has been since December 30 last year.
“No matter how good it is anywhere in the world, there is nothing better than our land. Longing hits everyone’s chest here. There is no one here who doesn’t have a brother, an uncle, a son, a friend in Brazil. We know it’s a fantastic country. I also want to return to Brazil. I intend to return to Brazil in the coming weeks”, he said without, however, specifying a date.
During the event, Bolsonaro also attacked the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) by calling the election result into doubt, without, once again, presenting evidence. “It is a great satisfaction the way you have treated me around this globe. This is priceless. Even more so for those who, at least before the TSE, failed to be re-elected. They say we all have a mission here on Earth. My mission is not over yet. It doesn’t matter what happens to me here or in Brazil. And in the way that, perhaps, something happens, ”he said.
Bolsonaro entered the US before the end of his term, with a diplomatic visa and, currently, his application for a tourist visa is being analyzed by the country’s immigration authorities. There is, however, pressure from political sectors – with more than 40 parliamentarians – for the request to be denied and for the FBI to investigate whether the coup acts of January 8 had help coming from US soil.
Too Stuck
The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) asked the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes to transfer Bolsonaristas arrested for the criminal acts of January 8 to state prisons.

The entity argued that the arrest of approximately 1,400 Bolsonaristas increased the prison population of the Federal District by 10%, worsening the prison systems in the region.
“The abrupt increase in the prison mass has caused an increase in the number of health care, escorts, lawyers and other prison routines, a fact that has a negative impact on the entire Penitentiary System”, says the entity.
Four generated “delay in administrative procedures, difficulty in organizing the reserved visit between lawyer and client, delay in health care, etc.”, since “there was no increase in the number of criminal police officers to handle all the demand”.
Ciro Gomes’ property is pledged to guarantee compensation to Holiday
The Justice of São Paulo determined the seizure of a property belonging to the former governor of Ceará Ciro Gomes (PDT) to guarantee the payment of compensation for moral damages to the councilor of São Paulo Fernando Holiday (Republicans).

The lawsuit refers to the statement by Ciro Gomes, who called Holiday a “little captain of the bush”, during an interview in 2018 with Jovem Pan. “The worst thing there is is a black man who is used by prejudice to stigmatize, who was the captain of the woods in the past”, said the former presidential candidate in sequence.
Ciro Gomes was sentenced in the first instance by the Court of Justice to pay R$ 38,000 in compensation. But the councilor’s defense states that the amount of compensation is R$ 98,723.23, taking into account the amount, interest and fine.
