Cultivation area will decrease in Ukraine
Due to the war, the structure of sown areas and crop volumes are changing, a decrease in the amount of fertilizer application will affect the harvest performance.
The sown area in Ukraine in 2023 will decrease by seven million hectares (to 29 million hectares) and change its structure. This was reported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
According to Igor Vishtak, Director of the Agrarian Development Department of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the structure of sown areas and crop volumes are significantly changing due to the war, and a decrease in the amount of fertilizer application will directly affect the gross harvest.
At the same time, Ukraine will be provided for domestic consumption in all food groups. export potential is expected to change.
“Much less corn will be sown, while this is one of the main grain crops that was exported,” Vishtak said.
He also noted that the state will focus on supporting small farmers, so now it is working on the continuation of the program for the payment of subsidies and subsidies per hectare of cultivated land and per head of cattle.
According to Vishtak, the urgent need for their support is also connected with the fact that it is small farmers who are mostly engaged in vegetable growing, the shortage of which we are currently seeing in the domestic market.
The director of the Department of Agricultural Development of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy added that the demand for Ukrainian grain, oilseeds and processed products remains quite high from foreign buyers. And all the risks and logistical difficulties are covered by the lower purchase price from the farmer. Therefore, the main problem of the next sowing season will be the lack of financial resources.
Earlier it was reported that Ukraine reduced the area under crops by 25%.
Recall that Ukrainian agricultural producers will receive more than $200 million from the UN.
