NATO believes that Odessa remains one of the goals of the Kremlin
The North Atlantic Alliance called for further assistance to Ukraine to resist the Russian aggressor.
The Russian Federation has not abandoned the idea of attacking Odessa in southern Ukraine. This was announced on Monday, February 13, by NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoane during an event organized by the Munich Security Conference in Berlin, Newsweek writes.
At the same time, he noted that the Kremlin does not have sufficient military power to implement this plan.
The deputy secretary general suggested that Russia could use Transnistria for this, however, according to him, Russia will not be able to encircle Ukraine, as Moscow planned.
“Today, Russia does not have enough strength to pass through Transnistria and encircle Ukraine from the rear – that’s the plan that is still there, then take Odessa. We don’t see Russia having the strength to do this,” he said.
Recall, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine believes that Russia will no longer be able to capture Odessa and connects this with the fact that the position of the Russian Federation in the Black Sea has weakened.
Earlier, the SBU detained a Russian agent who aimed enemy missiles at energy facilities in Odessa.
