After the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) announced a readjustment that had not happened since the government of Dilma Rousseff (PT), the values of undergraduate, graduate, scientific initiation and Permanence Scholarships will change from March . The adjustments were between 25% and 200%.
In the case of master’s and doctoral scholarships, the readjustments were 40%. In the master’s degree, the value of the scholarship increased from R$ 1,500 to R$ 2,100. As for the doctorate, the monthly amount paid to scholarship holders increases from R$ 2,200 to R$ 3,100. For postdoctoral fellows, the amount increased by 25%, from R$4,100 to R$5,200.
For high school students who are part of scientific initiation projects, the value of the scholarship increased by 200%, going from R$ 100 to R$ 300. of scholarships, going from R$ 400 to R$ 700.
An increase in the value of the Permanence Grant was also confirmed – the first readjustment since it was created, in 2013, in the Dilma government. The aid, aimed at quilombola, indigenous students, Prouni participants and students in socioeconomically vulnerable situations who study at federal institutions of higher education, aims to prevent dropouts. The readjustments varied between 55% and 75%, reaching amounts between R$ 400 and R$ 900.
To guarantee the readjustments, the Ministries of Education and Science and Technology will make R$ 2.38 billion available. The government also confirmed that it will resume growth in the number of scholarships. In 2015, for example, there were 58,600 master’s scholarships. The number dropped to 48.7 thousand in 2022 and will now reach 53.6 thousand.
