110 thousand tons of grain delivered from Ukraine to Ethiopia and Somalia
The loading of the vessel Mv Valsimitis with 25 thousand tons of grain for Kenya has begun, and a decision has been made to send cargo to Yemen, Sudan and Nigeria.
As part of the Grain From Ukraine program, Ukraine delivered 110,000 tons of grain to Ethiopia and Somalia. This was announced by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
“Thanks to the joint efforts of Ukraine, partner countries and WFP, it was possible to realize the supply of 110,000 tons of grain to Ethiopia and Somalia,” the president wrote.
Zelensky said that on February 15, in Chernomorsk, Odessa region, the loading of the Mv Valsimitis ship with 25 thousand tons of grain for Kenya began, and a decision was made to send cargo to Yemen, Sudan and Nigeria.
The President noted that each ship with grain within Grain from Ukraine meets the need for food for an average of 90,000 people.
According to Zelensky, in order to strengthen the grain initiative, the first ambassadors have joined the Famine Prevention Group to help scale up the project.
“Ukraine has been and will continue to be the guarantor of world food security. And it will continue to make its key contribution,” the President of Ukraine emphasized.
Recall that Russia blocks the inspection of ships in the Bosphorus. Because of this, in January, the export of Ukrainian agricultural products fell by 25% compared to December.
It also became known that Moscow considers it “unreasonable” to extend the grain deal if Russia is not lifted sanctions that affect its agricultural exports.
