The 65th birthday of the musician and composer Cazuza and the 40th anniversary of the release of the song “Pro dia Nascimento Feliz” will be celebrated in the Bloco Exagerado, which parades for the eighth year in a row in Rio’s carnival. Now an official block in Rio de Janeiro, Exagerado is now included in the official calendars of the city hall.

Another novelty is the day of the parade, which is now on Carnival Monday, the 20th, with concentration at 9am and a parade from 10am to 1pm, at Praça Tiradentes, in downtown Rio. “Pro dia Nascimento Feliz”, which was a hit with Cazuza when the rock poet led Barão Vermelho, is the theme of the year.
“We have many reasons to say that 2023 was born happy, but we believe that this tribute to Barão Vermelho, the band through which Cazuza launched and led until 1985, and which has great successes in its repertoire, would be fair. Even our shirt this year will be red as a reference to the Baron”, says the creator and producer of Bloco Exagerado, Rafael Braga.
Among the novelties of this year’s repertoire are the new arrangements of the songs “O tempo não para”, “Ideologia” and “Bete Balanço”, whose versions were released during the pandemic – when the block could not parade, but took the opportunity to renew the repertoire and bring news.

The public, which according to the organizers has increased more than 10 times since the first parade, held in 2016 in the narrow Arco do Teles, can rehearse the new rhythms through streaming platforms, where all the songs are available. In the official recording of the Bloco, “Bete Balanço” also features the participation of actor Emilio Dantas, who played Cazuza in a musical at the theater.
