The attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran took place on January 27. Aliyev called the attack a “terrorist act” and demanded “punishment of the terrorists.”
On January 29, employees of the embassy in Iran and their families were taken to Baku. The embassy in Tehran has suspended diplomatic activities, leaving five employees there who guard the administrative building and property.
Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov said that Baku had repeatedly demanded to ensure the security of the embassy, but the Iranian authorities ignored these appeals.
