On Thursday, February 23, Rennes hosted Shakhtar in the return match of the 1/16 finals of the Europa League. In the first game, the Pitmen won with a score of 2:1.

In the first extra-half, Rennes continued to dominate the field, which led to a couple of dangerous moments. Guiri had the best chance, but Trubin was once again superb on the goal line. The second extra-half began at lightning speed and triumphantly for Rennes. Doku won the fight against Matvienko, gave to Salah and he scored into an empty net. It seemed that Shakhtar had no chance to win back, but Belosyan cut the ball into his own net. Thus, the game went to a penalty shootout.
In the penalty shootout against Shakhtar, Bondar and Sikan failed to score, but Trubin made several saves, which allowed the team to reach the 1/8 finals of the Europa League.
