White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby
Tehran supplied Moscow with tank and artillery shells for the war against Ukraine, John Kirby said.
Iran transferred artillery and tank shells to Russia for the war against Ukraine. This was stated by the coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, John Kirby, Politico reports on Friday, February 24.
“We feared that relations between Russia and Iran would develop in both directions. And these fears are certainly justified. In November 2022, Iran supplied artillery and tank shells to Russia for use against Ukraine,” he said.
According to him, Russian-Iranian cooperation in the defense sphere causes concern for the US presidential administration.
“This will not only complicate the situation in Ukraine, but may also complicate the security situation in the Middle East for our partners and friends,” the US official said.
Kirby believes that Iran is seeking billions of dollars worth of military hardware from Russia. In particular, we are talking about cooperation in the field of defense, including missiles, electronics and air defense.
In addition, the Russian Federation can provide fighter jets to Iran, he added.
Recall that the head of the GUR, Kirill Budanov, believes that Russia has brought a trial batch of shells from Iran and is now trying to import another one – about 20,000.
In addition, according to intelligence, the Russian Federation is waiting for a new batch of drones from Iran.
