Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said that the first four of the 14 Leopard 2 tanks that the Polish army has already arrived in Ukraine, reports RMF FM.
The fact that the first tanks are already in Ukraine was confirmed during a visit to Kyiv by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. He also added that in the coming days, Poland will also transfer 60 RT-91 tanks to Ukraine. In turn, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the Polish Prime Minister for the supply of tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“These are the first tanks that will arrive in Ukraine as part of the coalition tank assistance, which we initiated from the very beginning,” said Polish President Andrzej Duda.
In mid-February, 105 Ukrainian soldiers arrived at the training ground in Sventoshuv, who are mastering German-made Leopard 2 tanks. According to Krzysztof Sieradsky, head of the training group at the training ground of the 10th Armored Brigade, in general, the training course for Ukrainian tankers will take about a month. He also noted that Ukrainian crews train every day for 10-12 hours.
The exercises of the Ukrainian military on Leopard 2 tanks are also taking place in Germany. The study is planned to be completed by the end of the first quarter, when Germany is going to transfer Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
In Europe, there are now about two thousand Leopard tanks of various modifications, the NYT reported. Berlin will supply Ukraine with 14 Leopard 2 tanks in the A6 modification from the stocks of the Bundeswehr. Canada has announced that it will donate four Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv as part of military assistance.
