State deputy Carlos Giannazi (PSOL) said, in an interview with Brazil in factthat the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo will continue to be a “pull” of the Palácio dos Bandeirantes, currently occupied by Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).
On the 15th of March, state deputies elect the new President of the Assembly. By all indications, the post will be occupied by André do Prado, from the same party as former president Jair Bolsonaro, the PL.
The alliance around his name brings together all the other parties in the house, including PT and PCdoB. “There is already a consortium forming between virtually all parties around the PL’s candidacy for the presidency.”

To win the dispute for the position, the candidate must obtain a majority of votes, that is, 48 necessary votes among 94 deputies.
The PL is the party that has the most seats: 19 parliamentarians. Next comes the PT, with 18, and the PSDB – which is also part of the alliance around André do Prado, with nine. União Brasil won eight vacancies, the same amount as the Republicans. With these parties alone, André do Prado already has 62 votes, not counting the votes of other parties, such as MDB, Republicans and PCdoB.
PSOL elected only five state deputies. If the federation with the Sustainability Network is taken into account, the bench has six representatives.
Department of Palácio dos Bandeirantes
Giannazi claims that there is no surprise in the choice of leftist parties to support Tarcísio de Freitas’ candidate, since they have been using this tool for years to get positions on the Board of Directors, chosen by the president of Alesp. “From a symbolic point of view”, however, Giannazi believes that the decision “sends a very bad message to the population”.
After the election, the tendency is for PT and PCdoB to reaffirm themselves as opposition to the state government alongside PSOL. “The PT enters the consortium to occupy space at the table, but it will be the opposition, just like the PCdoB. It is a momentary separation.”

Even so, with André do Prado in the presidency of Alesp and with a majority among the deputies, Giannazi believes that the house “will be a department of the Palácio dos Bandeirantes, which will only ratify the decisions of the governor on duty, who is now a Tarcísio, a bolsonarista”.

“There will be a continuation of the Legislative Assembly, passively submissive and having this characteristic that I have known for a long time: pulling from the Bandeirantes Palace. So just homologate it, because Tarcísio will have the majority. it will not have autonomy, it will continue not to investigate cases of corruption involving the government, as it has already happened”, says the state deputy.
“We had several cases that were not investigated by Alesp. The cases of corruption and overbilling of the subway, Sabesp (Companhia de Saneamento Basico do Estado de São Paulo), Rodoanel, CPTM (Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos), FDE (Foundation for the Development of Education). We cannot approve CPI to investigate the government, because the government controls the Legislative Assembly.”

“With a large base and controlling the presidency, the government will continue to decide what will or will not be discussed within the legislative assembly. The only thing the government will not control is the tribune. They will control all the permanent committees”, he concludes. .
Counterpoint to the Bolsonarism consortium
In a note, the PSOL bench stated that Giannazi’s candidacy will make a “counterpoint to the Bolsonarism consortium” and that the deputy will reject “any denialist and fundamentalist project that encourages the policy of hate and attacks on democracy”.
Among the agendas raised by the parliamentarian, is the revocation of “perverse measures approved” in the administrations of Serra, Alckmin, Doria and Rodrigo Garcia, such as pension reform, privatization of parks, forests and caves and also of the Ibirapuera Sports Complex and the zoo, the administrative reform, the revision of the Comprehensive Education Program, among others.
Giannazi also defends the recreation of the Endemic Disease Control Superintendence (Sucen) and the Forestry, Geological and Botanical Institutes, extinguished by former governor João Doria (PSDB), in 2020, and the creation of a Democratic Management Council made up of civil servants and Alesp entities.
