
Rescuers at the scene of a train accident in Greece
The country has declared three days of national mourning for those killed in the railway accident.
The death toll from a collision between a passenger and freight train in northern Greece has risen to 38. This was reported on March 1 by the newspaper Prothotema.
It is noted that 66 people were injured, six of them are in intensive care. Another 20-25 people are considered “missing”, their whereabouts are being checked.
According to a fire service spokesman, the search and rescue operation is focused on the first three cars of the passenger train.
150 firefighters, 17 vehicles and four cranes are involved. There are also about 30 ambulances on site. The process of identification of the victims continues in the hospital of the city of Larisa.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has declared three days of national mourning for the victims of the train accident.
According to the publication, the tragedy could have been caused by a human factor: for some unknown reason, the head of the Larisa station brought the train to the line, along which a commercial train was already moving.

The passenger train followed from Athens to Thessaloniki, there were at least 350 people in it. Earlier it was reported about 32 dead.
