A joint effort is being organized by the Rio de Janeiro Public Defender’s Office (DP-RJ) to help parents and guardians who have not yet managed to find places in daycare centers in the city of Rio. During the month of March, the mutirões must take place every weekend, on Saturdays, from 9 am to 3 pm, in different neighborhoods of the city.
Next Saturday (4), services will take place at the Taquara unit, in the west of the city. On March 11, at the Campo Grande unit, in the same region. The demands of Santa Cruz will also be concentrated there.

On the 18th, the mutirão will take place downtown, where services from other areas of the city will be concentrated. On the 25th, the Public Defender’s Office returns to Taquara.
The defenders will assist those responsible for children aged up to 5 years. Appointments must be scheduled by the Citizen Relations Center (CRC) of the Ombudsman, by phone or application. The goal is to avoid agglomerations and waiting in queues.

In addition to the mutirões, the demands for day care are also met by the Ombudsman through the first assistance centers, in the official channels of the institution.
The agency points out that, in cases where there is no vacancy, she files a lawsuit in which a judge issues a warrant requesting a vacancy at a day care center close to the neighborhood where the family resides. In case of delay or non-compliance, the parents or guardians can return to the Public Defender’s Office and request the execution of the request in the public network or in an accredited private day care center.
