Earthquake death toll rises in Turkey
Rescuers continue clearing rubble in the most earthquake-hit Turkish provinces.
The death toll from the devastating earthquakes in Turkey has exceeded 46,000. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced this on March 6, Gazeteduvar reports.
According to him, to date, the number of victims has amounted to 46,104 people.
In eleven provinces affected by the earthquake, the number of buildings destroyed or badly damaged is 230,000. Residents of the surviving houses cannot return to their homes due to constant tremors.
“We have started creating container cities. If necessary, we will further increase their number to 100,000 within two months,” Erdogan said.
The authorities intend to move half a million earthquake survivors to areas where they can live in safety.
