Next Wednesday (15) an act will take place across the country for the repeal of the New Secondary School, instituted by Law 13,415, of 2017. The mobilization is organized in several states and in the Federal District by the Brazilian Union of Secondary Students (UBES) and has the support of the National Confederation of Education Workers (CNTE). In Brasilia, the act will take place in front of the Museum of the Republic, at 9 am.
According to UBES, the New Secondary School was approved without broad public debate and without listening to educators and students. The entity recalls that the proposal was to make the curriculum more flexible and offer students training that was more targeted to their areas of interest, but what happened was a great lack of clarity in relation to the objectives of the reform and its application.

The implementation of the reform without debate and without an adequate evaluation of the program’s results generated a series of problems, as pointed out by UBES: subjects without in-depth content, overworked teachers, classes without structure, lack of training and insufficient investment in teacher training.
Another major problem is that the New Secondary School would have exposed the difference between the education system of public schools and private schools, especially with regard to infrastructure and support material for teachers.
