The leader of the Nogu Svelo band, musician Maxim Pokrovsky, was charged with “discrediting” the Russian army, writes the Moscow City News Agency.
The administrative case against Pokrovsky, opened under Part 1 of Article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, will be considered in the Khoroshevsky District Court of Moscow, the meeting will be held on March 27. What was the reason for the protocol is unknown.
Pokrovsky himself has been abroad since 2019 – the musician lives in the USA. After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, he repeatedly spoke out in support of Ukraine and raised money for Ukrainian refugees.
In the summer of 2022, the Nogu Svelo group released the anti-war song Ukraine. On the anniversary of the start of the full-scale invasion, Pokrovsky posted a video on his Instagram account in which the group performs this song in Ukrainian.
After the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, many cultural figures left Russia, expressing their anti-war position. In particular, actor and TV presenter Mikhail Shats, singer Alla Pugacheva and TV presenter Maxim Galkin, singer and composer Andrei Makarevich left the Russian Federation.
In Russia itself, artists with an anti-war position are not allowed to perform. For example, People’s Artist of Russia Dmitry Nazarov and his wife, Honored Artist of Russia Olga Vasilyeva, were fired from the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater because of the actor’s statements against the war in Ukraine and “anti-Russian sentiments”.
And from the repertoire of the Moscow theater “Sovremennik” was removed the play “The Game of Gin” with actress Leah Akhedzhakova in the title role. Theater director Yuri Kravets said that he was “literally inundated with angry letters addressed to her.” Akhedzhakova openly criticizes Russian President Vladimir Putin for invading Ukraine.
