The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv sentenced “the organizer of the sabotage and reconnaissance group of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Ministry of Defense” (GRU) to 12 years in prison. He was involved in the preparation of the assassination of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense Kirill Budanov and a Ukrainian activist, according to the Security Service of Ukraine.
The court found him guilty under four articles of the Criminal Code: treason (Article 111 of the Criminal Code), preparation to commit murder (Article 14, Article 27, Article 115 of the Criminal Code), participation in an illegal armed formation (Article 260 of the Criminal Code), participation in a terrorist organization (Article 258-3 of the Criminal Code).
The SBU announced the detention of “killers” in the Volyn region in August 2022. According to the investigation, for the murder of each of them, the Russian “curators” promised a reward in the amount of 100 to 150 thousand dollars.
The convict, according to the intelligence service, is a resident of the occupied Luhansk and actively participated in the hostilities as part of the so-called “LPR” in eastern Ukraine. The sabotage group was allegedly formed by “professionals” of the Russian military intelligence.
Earlier it was reported that a resident of Lugansk was looking for a “killer”, his “proposal was answered by a resident of Kyiv”, who “agreed to liquidate the Ukrainian military for 5 thousand dollars.” “This assassination was supposed to be a “test test” before performing the main tasks of the enemy,” the agency said in a statement.
To assassinate the heads of the defense departments, the “connector” drove through Belarus to Ukraine, where they were supposed to prepare a plan for “liquidation”. Two suspects were detained in Kovel, during a search, evidence of criminal acts and a passport of a Russian citizen were found in one of them, the department said earlier.
There is no information about the second detainee.
