Den Hampton ready to fight in Ukraine
The NATO pilot suggested that the Ukrainian authorities think about attracting private military pilots to protect the Ukrainian sky and volunteered to be the first of them.
American pilot and veteran of several wars Den Hampton said he was ready to fight in Ukraine if Kyiv manages to secure the supply of F-16 aircraft. He said this in an interview with the Voice of America.
Hampton said he has no doubts about the professionalism of the Ukrainian pilots, but it will take many months for them to retrain on the F-16, while they are now needed on the battlefield.
According to him, the way out of the situation may be to attract private military pilots to protect the Ukrainian sky.
“It’s a faster solution than sending Ukrainian pilots to the US for a training program. It will be fine when the war is over, but you have to win the war first, and that’s one way to do that,” Hampton said.
He noted that there will be many American pilots who want to fight in Ukraine if this issue is resolved at the government level.
“I will even go myself, I will become number one, you can count on me,” the American pilot emphasized.
Dan Hampton has flown 151 combat missions and has served in the Iraq, Kosovo and Gulf Wars during his 20-year career. His book Viper Pilot: A Memoir of Air Combat became a New York Times bestseller and has been translated into a dozen languages.
Earlier it was reported that two Ukrainian military pilots were already trained in the United States.
