In the year since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, at least 15,000 Russian troops have died. Such data are provided by the BBC Russian Service and Mediazona, who, together with a team of volunteers, are counting the dead from open sources (journalists note that they rely on confirmed death reports, so the data does not reflect the real level of losses).
According to them, by mid-February 2023, the death of 1,121 mobilized Russians is known. 50 of them died on the territory of Russia, while at collection points or in military units. Most often, the cause of death was health problems or delayed medical care. In eight people, the cause of death was suicide. At least six soldiers have died in training or traffic accidents. He notes that there could be more such cases, but the military may not disclose the causes of death of those mobilized at training points.
