Duda announced the transfer of MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine
Poland will hand over four MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine in the coming days. Polish President Andrzej Duda said this at a press conference. He added that Poland still has a dozen of these MiGs.
UN Commission finds no evidence of Ukrainian genocide
The Independent International Commission of Inquiry into Ukraine, led by the UN, failed to collect evidence of the genocide of Ukrainians after the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. This was stated by the head of the commission, Eric Mese. The Commission’s report noted that violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in many cases amount to war crimes.
Russia found a downed American drone – media
A downed American MQ-9 Reaper drone was found in the Black Sea. This was reported by the propaganda publication ForPost, citing a source in the Russian Defense Ministry. An underwater robot descended to the bottom of the sea, which discovered the MQ-9 Reaper at a depth of about 850-900 meters. At the same time, the aggressors do not even hide that they want to get the US technologies that are in the downed drone.
US releases video of drone incident
On March 16, the US European Command (EUCOM) published a declassified video of the incident with the Russian Su-27 and the American MQ-9 Reaper UAV over the Black Sea. The video shows how the Su-27 dumps fuel on the drone, after which the image is interrupted. Meanwhile, the Kremlin has said it is in contact with the US over the UAV incident. They also noted that the Russian military is deciding whether to raise an American drone from the bottom of the Black Sea.
The National Bank left the discount rate at the same level
The National Bank decided to keep the discount rate at 25% per annum. At the same time, a set of additional measures will be introduced to increase competition among banks for fixed-term deposits of the population by lowering the rate of overnight certificates of deposit from 23% to 20% and benefits for banks that attract funds for a period of three months or more.
Putin met with Russian oligarchs
The head of the ruling regime in Russia, Vladimir Putin, on Thursday, March 16, for the first time since the start of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, held a meeting with the largest Russian entrepreneurs. During the meeting, Putin tried to convince businessmen that supposedly “it’s better in Russia” and that Europe “punished itself” with anti-Russian sanctions. The head of the Kremlin urged those present to invest in new technologies, production facilities and enterprises to help Russia overcome “the attempts of the West to destroy its economy.”
NATO and EU set up Infrastructure Protection Group
The EU and NATO have announced the creation of a dedicated task force on critical infrastructure resilience. Officials from NATO and the European Union held their first meeting on Thursday 16 March to establish the new Task Force. The decision to create the group was made after the explosions on the Nord Stream gas pipelines last year. The Critical Infrastructure Protection Team will cover four sectors: energy, digital infrastructure, transport and space.
