Earthquake hits Ecuador and Peru
One victim is a car passenger pinned down by the rubble of a house. Also, many people are probably under the rubble of the building.
A massive earthquake struck Ecuador and northern Peru on Saturday, March 18, killing at least 12 people, AP reports.
So, according to the US Geological Survey, an earthquake of magnitude 6.8 occurred near the Pacific coast, about 80 km south of Guayaquil – the second largest city in Ecuador.
President Guillermo Lasso appealed to citizens to remain calm.
It is noted that one victim is a passenger of the car, pressed by the wreckage of the house. Also, many people are probably under the rubble of the building.
Up to 13.5 million people could have felt the quake, according to USGS computer simulations.
Recall that a few days earlier, an earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred 250 km from Istanbul. No casualties were reported.
Before that, on February 6, two earthquakes with a magnitude of more than seven points hit Turkey. The tremors, followed by thousands of aftershocks, were felt in 11 provinces of the republic and neighboring countries, of which Syria suffered the most. More than 49 thousand people died, more than 115 thousand were injured.
