Russian hackers constantly attack Ukraine
Hackers trojanize ISOs and installation files and place them for free on torrent trackers, the service explained.
Russian hackers distribute infected software using torrent trackers. This was reported by the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection on Sunday, March 19.
“The State Service for Special Communications warns that downloading hacked software is dangerous. Typically, such software is distributed using torrent trackers, which is actively used by attackers, including Russian special services, who add malicious code to the hacked software,” the message says.
It notes that Russian hackers trojanize ISOs and installation files and make them freely available on torrent trackers.
“If the victim downloads and installs such files on his computer, hackers gain access to its contents and may remain invisible for a long time,” the service stressed.
It is indicated that in many post-Soviet countries, system administrators still use unlicensed software (including operating systems) in institutions and companies of various forms of ownership, distributed using torrent trackers.
“Installing hacked software from torrents, they actually provide Russian intelligence services with access to the contents of working machines. Especially dangerous is the use of a hacked operating system, because in this case, attackers have full administrative access to the computer on which it is installed. Ordinary Ukrainian users are also in the zone risk by installing unlicensed software from unofficial sources, in particular, torrents,” the State Service for Special Communications concluded.
Recall that this week there was a cyber attack on the state resources of Ukraine, including unified and state registries, websites of the Ministry of Justice.
