The KGB of Belarus claims that a foreign citizen was killed in the city of Grodno in the west of the country, allegedly preparing a terrorist act. This is reported by the state agency BELTA with reference to the special service.
As it was said in the message, the KGB officers carried out “special measures to suppress the activities of persons who entered the territory of the Republic of Belarus with the aim of committing a terrorist act.” The foreigner, referred to in the message as L., “with the use of automatic weapons and by detonating live grenades” offered armed resistance and was killed. According to the report, civilians and law enforcement officers were not injured.
The KGB does not report about the citizen of which state he is talking about and what kind of action he intended to commit in Belarus. It is also unclear whether he acted alone – the report refers to “persons who entered the territory” of the country in the plural.
As the Belarusian service of Radio Liberty notes, earlier a number of telegram channels, referring to the residents of Grodno, reported shooting or explosions on Kurchatov Street. One of the eyewitnesses reported that the police “loaded a man into the car” – it was not specified whether he was alive or dead.
The authorities of Belarus have repeatedly accused Ukraine and Western countries of preparing some provocations, in Kyiv and in the West such plans have been denied.
