Vessel Valsamitis delivers humanitarian cargo to the Kenyan port of Mombasa
This is the fifth ship delivering Ukrainian grain to Africa under the Grain from Ukraine program.
As part of the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian program of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the first ship with 30,000 tons of Ukrainian wheat arrived in Kenya. This was reported on the website of the head of state.
It is noted that the vessel Valsamitis on Monday, March 20, delivered a humanitarian cargo to the Kenyan port of Mombasa. This is the fifth ship delivering Ukrainian grain to Africa as part of the Grain from Ukraine program, created to overcome the global food crisis in the countries most affected by hunger.
This consignment of Ukrainian grain was sent with the support of the UN World Food Program (WFP), as well as financial assistance from the governments of Great Britain, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia and the Czech Republic.
According to rough estimates by experts from the UN World Food Program, 30 thousand tons of grain provided under the Grain from Ukraine initiative will provide bread for about 2 million people for 1.5 months.
“The official welcoming ceremony was attended by Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya Rigati Gachagua, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Kenya Andriy Pravednik, ambassadors of the donor countries of the program. Dr. Christopher Fomunyo, a member of the International Coordinating Group for the Prevention of Hunger (ICGPH) also arrived in Mombasa to participate in the celebrations. which ensures the functioning of Volodymyr Zelensky’s Grain from Ukraine humanitarian program,” the message reads.
It is noted that the total volume of agricultural products transferred to African countries as part of the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian program of the President is more than 140 thousand tons.
More than 30 countries and international organizations have joined the Grain from Ukraine program, including EU member states, the US, Canada, the UK, Japan, Korea and Qatar, raising more than $200 million in donations.
Recall that the United Nations confirmed the extension of the grain deal, which ended on Saturday, March 18.
It was also reported that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that the Black Sea “grain initiative” was extended by 60 days, not 120. In addition, in the Russian Federation they again started talking about the possibility of withdrawing from the agreement.
