Artem Uss’s lawyer said they would appeal
American law enforcement officers suspect the Russian of evading sanctions and money laundering.
Russian businessman Artem Uss, who was detained in Italy on an international warrant, may be extradited to the United States – a court in Milan (Italy) made the corresponding decision. This is reported by the Italian edition of La Repubblica on Tuesday, March 21.
The Russian, the son of the governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexander Uss, was charged in the United States with sanctions evasion and money laundering.
The entrepreneur’s lawyer said that within 15 days it is planned to file an appeal with the Cassation Court.
The final decision on extradition is made by the Minister of Justice, it is carried out after he signs the relevant document.
Uss was detained on October 17, 2022 at Milan Malpensa Airport. He was under house arrest. On October 25, the Milan Attorney General’s Office, based on a study of the case file submitted by the American side, formulated an indictment for extradition.
In the Russian Federation, the court also put Uss on the international wanted list as part of a criminal case on money laundering on an especially large scale.
Recall that earlier journalist Rikard Jozwiak announced the extension of sanctions against Russia. According to him, despite some speculation, no one was excluded from the list.
Let’s add, on February 25, the EU approved the 10th package of sanctions against Russia.
