Workers from the Federal District join the street demonstrations that take place this Tuesday (21) across Brazil against the interest rate policy implemented by the Central Bank. The Central Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT), affiliated unions, other centrals and the Povo Sem Medo and Brasil Popular Fronts have a mobilization scheduled for 12 noon, in front of the headquarters of the Central Bank, at SBS Q4 – entrance in front of Eixão, in Brasilia.
The basic interest rate (Selic) at 13.75% per year has been defended by the current president of the Central Bank (BC), Campos Neto, who was appointed to the position by former president Jair Bolsonaro and his economy minister Paulo Guedes.
The Monetary Policy Committee (Copom) meeting takes place on March 21st and 22nd and the purpose of the mobilization is to press for a decrease in the interest rate practiced by the current management of the BC.

In addition to the street acts, unified actions will be carried out on social networks asking for the departure of Campos Neto from the presidency of the BC and the democratization of the Tax Resources Administration Council (CARF), which are also on the agenda of the mobilizations.
CUT also called acts in Belém (PA), Belo Horizonte (MG), Curitiba (PR), Fortaleza (CE), Porto Alegre (RS), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Recife (PE), Salvador (BA) and São Paulo.

The national president of the CUT, Sérgio Nobre, said that the protests are essential to pressure the BC’s management to lower the interest rates that are holding back economic growth and preventing the creation of jobs. the worker has been going through has everything to do with the high interest rates that prevent companies from investing and the government itself from promoting social programs and carrying out works”, defended Nobre.
