The Chinese leader must urge Russia to stop invading Ukraine if he is to play a constructive role in the conflict.
During the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, the US authorities did not see signs of an early end to the war in Ukraine. This was stated by the coordinator for strategic communications of the National Security Council at the White House, John Kirby, reports Sky News.
“We have not seen anything that Xi and Putin have said that would make us believe that the war in Ukraine will end soon,” he said.
Kirby added that he wouldn’t call the Russia-China relationship an alliance, adding that it was clear both countries “would like the world to play by their rules.”
The White House also stressed that Xi must urge Russia to stop invading Ukraine if he wants to play any constructive role in the conflict.
According to Kirby, adherence to the UN charter means that Russia must withdraw from all of Ukraine.
Recall, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is not opposed to using the points from the so-called “peace plan” of China to resolve the war with Ukraine.
At the same time, the United States called China’s “peace plan” an attempt to freeze the war in Ukraine.
