Spain joined the EU agreement on the supply of ammunition to Ukraine
The Council of the European Union has approved a plan to provide Ukraine with one million artillery rounds worth a total of 2 billion euros.
Spain has announced that it will join the initiative approved the day before for the purchase by Europe of one million artillery shells for Ukraine during the year. This was announced on Wednesday, March 22, by Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles, Cadena COPE reports.
“After completing the necessary administrative formalities, the Minister of Defense signed the document,” the newspaper notes.
Thus, Spain became the nineteenth country participating in the project.
The publication reminds that the agreement involves investing 2 billion euros in the supply of one million artillery ammunition to Ukraine within 12 months to strengthen support for Kyiv.
“The project, promoted by the European Defense Agency, will be financed by the European Peace Fund and will urgently solve the problem of shortage of ammunition and increase the ability of European industry to meet current and future needs,” the statement said.
It is noted that the EU will conduct joint arms purchases for the first time. Thus, European politicians intend to “reduce costs” and “avoid the risks of delays due to unexpected changes in demand.”
As part of the initiative, in the near future, the allies will deliver to Ukraine those stocks of ammunition that are already available in the arms depots of Europe.
Western partners of Kyiv may well start deliveries of F-16 fighters to Ukraine, because there is no final refusal to provide such assistance. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
Representatives of the ruling regime of Russia have again begun to blackmail with the threat of using nuclear weapons, as they are afraid of new deliveries of weapons to Ukraine.
