In the Gorno-Matchinsky district of the Sughd region of Tajikistan, as a result of the earthquake, houses and agricultural buildings were damaged, the Tajik service of Radio Liberty reports.
An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 occurred on March 23 at 1:07 am local time. The press secretary of the Committee for Emergency Situations of Tajikistan, Umeda Yusufi, said that the epicenter of the earthquake was near the village of Paldorak, Gorno-Matcha district. The strength of the tremors in Dushanbe was 3-4 points, in the Rasht region – 4-5 points and in the Gorno-Badakhshan region – 2-3 points.
According to her, as a result of the earthquake in the Gorno-Matchinsky district, some residential buildings and auxiliary facilities were damaged. No harm done.
Residents of the village of Paldorak, Gorno-Matchinsky district, sent a video to the publication. It reportedly shows that many houses were damaged by the earthquake, and the walls of some houses collapsed. Houses were also damaged in neighboring villages – Pakshif, Dehmanora, Khudgifi-Eshonkho and Rog.
Local residents had to spend the night on the street. According to them, they never received help (this was at the time of the conversation with a journalist from Radio Ozodi). “Practically all the houses in our village were damaged. A large number of livestock died. People have nowhere to sleep today, and we have sick people, children, and women. All the villagers are in this situation,” said a resident of the village of Paldorak.
The press secretary of the Committee for Emergency Situations said that a state commission had been created and all the victims would be helped. According to an employee of the department for emergency situations of the Gorno-Matchinsky district, local authorities are assessing the damage.
According to the publication, the Prime Minister of the country Kokhir Rasulzoda and the chairman of the Sughd region Rajabboy Ahmadzoda left for the place.
On the evening of January 21, an earthquake occurred, the epicenter of which was located 40 kilometers south of the Afghan district of Jurm, Badakhshan province in northeastern Afghanistan, located near the border with Pakistan and Tajikistan. As a result, 13 people were killed in Pakistan and Afghanistan, more than 90 were injured of varying severity.
