Last Wednesday (22), the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj) approved in second discussion a bill that authorizes the State Government to create the Specialized Police Station for Assistance to Sexual Crimes (Deacris).
The measure will be forwarded to Governor Cláudio Castro (PL), who has up to 15 working days to sanction or veto it.

The author of the project, congresswoman Tia Ju (REP), justifies the measure based on the state’s violence rates. There were 5105 cases of rape in 2021 alone, according to the Public Security Institute (ISP), which corresponds to an average of one case every 100 minutes.
“As we are creating a specialized police station, we are already thinking about articulations so as not to bring new expenses to the government, because we are in a recovery regime”, commented the author.
“As the project is authoritative, we will have time to articulate ourselves, talk, seek resources so that we can have a specific police station, so that these crimes, these processes start to be faster, due to the increase in crime”, explained Tia Ju.
