The agency expressed hope that the UN will avoid steps that “can be interpreted as equalizing the victim and the aggressor.”
Ukraine is grateful to the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission for fixing the crimes of the Russian Federation. However, at the same time, the UN report on the treatment of prisoners of war and the general situation with human rights in Ukraine is an attempt to level the aggressor and the victim of aggression. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on Friday, March 24.
The agency noted that it was grateful to the monitoring mission for documenting the violations of international law committed by Russia in the context of armed aggression against Ukraine.
“At the same time, we consider it unacceptable to lay responsibility on the victim of aggression. According to the UN Charter, Ukraine has the right to self-defense. As the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly noted, the Ukrainian side expects the UN mission to avoid any steps that can be interpreted as equalizing the victim and the aggressor” – summarized in the department.
As we have already reported, the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine presented a report in which it stated its concern about “arbitrary executions” of up to 25 Russian and 15 Ukrainian prisoners of war.
Ukraine responded to UN statement on executions of prisoners “by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Russian Federation”
