Russian nuclear weapons
The international anti-nuclear campaign believes that as long as Putin has nuclear weapons, Europe cannot be safe.
The International Campaign to Ban Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) on Saturday, March 25, condemned the statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus, reports The Guardian.
“As long as President Putin has nuclear weapons, Europe cannot be safe,” ICAN said.
Putin, they say, justifies this dangerous escalation by citing decades of NATO nuclear exchanges.
“As long as countries continue to view nuclear weapons as something other than a global problem, this helps Putin to hide behind such behavior,” Daniel Hogsta, interim executive director of ICAN, said in a statement.
As reported, Putin said that the Russian Federation would deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. According to him, the weapons will be deployed “without violating the obligations under the START Treaty.”
