Ukraine expects effective action to counter the nuclear blackmail of the Kremlin by the UK, China, the US and France.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has officially reacted to the intentions of the Russian Federation to deploy tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus.
The Foreign Ministry noted that Russia’s intention to deploy tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus is another provocative step of the criminal Putin regime, undermines the foundations of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, the architecture of nuclear disarmament and the international security system as a whole.
Ukraine appeals to the Belarusian society to prevent the realization of criminal intentions to deploy nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus contrary to its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, which will further turn this country into a hostage of the Kremlin and will have catastrophic consequences for its future, the Foreign Ministry stressed .
“We appeal to the states of the Group of Seven and the European Union to warn the Belarusian authorities about the far-reaching consequences for Belarus, if it agrees to accept tactical nuclear weapons from Russia on its territory,” the ministry called.
Ukraine expects effective action to counter the nuclear blackmail of the Kremlin by the UK, China, the US and France, including as permanent members of the UN Security Council, which have a special responsibility to prevent threats of aggression using nuclear weapons.
“We demand to immediately convene an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council for this purpose,” the Foreign Ministry said.
Ukraine called on all members of the world community to bring to the criminal Putin regime the categorical unacceptability of its regular nuclear provocations and take decisive measures to prevent any possibility of the use of nuclear weapons by the aggressor state.
Recall, on March 25, Putin said that Moscow had agreed with Minsk on the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus. He argues that this “will not violate the obligations under the START.”
According to ISW, the actions of the President of the Russian Federation are part of an information campaign that is designed to strengthen the West’s fears about nuclear escalation.
